So just to make people know - we are wrapping up the Starter Set. Then MY next book is the Sartar Book, then the Cults Book, and then the RQ Campaign. Plus getting White Bear Red Moon re-released with lots of cool new things. That should keep me pretty busy this year.
And Jason is also working on a number of books where he is the lead and I am not the primary writer (although I am heavily involved of course). Between the two of us, there is going to be a lot of RuneQuest coming out in 2021.
The Sartar Book really has me terribly excited - there is SO much in it. So very very much in it.
For those who wonder why I have Cults listed as the 3rd book I expect to get out, that's because one artist is doing the bulk of the work for two volumes. And even if that one artist is the amazing Loïc Muzy, it is going to take longer than a shorter book that has ten artists working on it.
All of those books are what I consider to be core canon - so much so that people working on other books for Chaosium need to have access to them in order to make my editing life easier.
Jason Durall sur le Starter Set: basic rules, guide to Glorantha, 14 pregens, maps, dice, a solo adventure, a guide to Jonstown, two all new adventures, + one updated classic, and much more.
The goal was to make it appeal to new players as well as longtime fans.
I have had a number of questions about ”where is the Glorantha Skirmish War game?”
Here is an update:
We were well advanced with playtesting until COVID arrived last March.
That caused the playtesting groups to more or less shut down.
I think that had we been able to continue playtesting the rules would have been with you by last Xmas.
All the changes from the playtesting done have been incorporated in the rules and on the cards.
We also have a stack of new miniatures to launch in 2021.
We probably need about three months of solid playtesting until the rule set is ready.
It is likely the UK will open up third quarter this year, so I imagine a Kickstarter launch either in Q4 this year or Q1 next year.
“How does the game work ?”
It is a fast D10 combat and magic system.
Each type of UNIT, BEHEMOTH, or HERO has their own card which details their stats, magical highlights and access to Runes and Magic.
Unit specific magic and special tactics are detailed on their respective cards, and Hero magic is on faction specific magic decks.
“You mentioned factions?”
The basic game has four factions, Sartar, Lunar, Troll, and Chaos.
Stretch goals will include Prax and Independents.
“ Do I need metal miniatures and at what scale”
The game is designed for 28mm scale miniatures, but there is no reason you could not use say 15mm .
It is also possible to use card standups if you wish.
“Will you incorporate other manufacturers minis?”
We are happy to incorporate and promote licensed Glorantha minis.
We are not promoting unlicensed miniatures, although you are of course free to use whatever you wish.
“I just play RPG, why do I need this?”
Do you ever have any large battles that take too long under the detailed RQ system ?
“Can my PC take part in a battle under these rules?”
Yes, PC conversion rules are included.
https://www.dicebreaker.com/companies/c ... w-editionsChaosium board game line editor Susan O’Brien told Dicebreaker that the upcoming releases would “keep as much of the flavour of the original games as we can, while working on making the rules as clear as possible”. The new instalments will feature revamped visuals, including cover artwork from Artesia illustrator Mark Smylie and cartography by Matt Ryan, alongside new maps and a revised ruleset based on “many, many hours of playtesting and note-taking”.
